The Planning and Infrastructure Bill

The Planning and Infrastructure Bill

The Planning and Infrastructure Bill yesterday became law, ushering in key reforms to the planning system.

Planning and Infrastructure Act 2025

Among the measures introduced include a legal framework for spatial development strategies, the introduction of a new system for developers to offset environmental impacts and changes to the nationally significant infrastructure projects regime.

The act also enables the government to make regulations on key aspects of the development management system including:

– LPAs having the ability to set their own planning fees.

– A widely anticipated national scheme of delegation for deciding planning
applications.

– Limiting the size of planning committees.

– Requiring mandatory training for planning committee members.

We very much look forward to seeing the Government’s key regulations in these respects come forward early in the new year and we continue to advise our clients on such matters during these important times.

Please do not hesitate to get in touch should you wish to discuss this important new Legislation further.
